The range of the Fountain of Rune's effects.
The Fountain of Rune is a magical obelisk within the ruined fortress south of the Wilderness Volcano, which emerged after an underground tremor caused it to erupt from the earth. It provides unlimited runes when casting a spell within its line-of-sight,[1] but no experience will be gained for doing so. Although free players can visit the Fountain, all of its features are only available to members.
Casting Low Alchemy here is a requirement for the Easy Wilderness Diary.
Teleportation spells can be active whilst near the Fountain, but as it is in deep Wilderness, they cannot be used to teleport out of the Wilderness. Players are also prevented from logging out of the game for three seconds after casting a spell with no rune cost.
Players who have completed the hard tasks in the Wilderness Diary will be able to teleport here once per day using the Wilderness sword 3; players who have completed the elite tasks can teleport here infinitely using the Wilderness sword 4. Utilizing the infinite teleports to the Fountain of Rune, with stamina potions as well as the Lv. 50 Wilderness Obelisk further north, allow you to do approximately 72 trips per hour to the Fountain of Rune. Alternatively, players can use the Annakarl Teleport spell to teleport to the Demonic Ruins, which is only a short distance to the west of the fountain.
A popular low-risk method of getting to the Fountain of Rune by foot is by taking an inventory of uncharged jewellery into a free-to-play world and switching to a members world when getting to the fountain to charge the jewellery, then switching back to free-to-play and walking back. Members only bosses and enemies won't appear in the free-to-play Wilderness with player killers being few, having only low level magic and range equipment with no access to ancient spells.

Getting there[edit | edit source]
The quickest methods of reaching the Fountain of Rune are as follows:
- Teleporting directly to the fountain via use of the Wilderness sword 4, which offers unlimited teleports
- Teleporting directly to the fountain via use of the Wilderness sword 3, which offers one daily teleport
- Teleporting via the Annakarl Teleport spell to the Demonic Ruins and walk west
Recharging dragonstone jewellery[edit | edit source]
Members can charge their dragonstone jewellery (Amulet of glory, combat bracelet, skills necklace, ring of wealth) on the Fountain of Rune, provided they have the quest requirements to do so normally. There are no quest requirements to recharge rings of wealth, but recharging amulets of glory requires the completion of Heroes' Quest, and recharging skills necklaces and combat bracelets require the completion of Legends' Quest. Upon charging a piece of jewellery on the Fountain of Rune, the piece will receive six charges, rather than the typical four charges from the traditional charging location. A player only needs to use a single piece of jewellery on the Fountain of Rune and all the jewellery in their inventory and that they have equipped will be recharged at once. Combat bracelet and skills necklace in noted form will be charged; this is not the case for rings of wealth and amulets of glory.
The Fountain of Rune is the only location where the ring of wealth can be recharged. Each ring receives five teleport charges.
In addition, while charging amulets of glory, there is a 1 in 25,000 chance that an amulet of glory (including its trimmed variant) will transmute into an amulet of eternal glory, which provides unlimited teleports rather than the usual six. When this occurs, "The power of the fountain is transferred into an amulet of eternal glory. It will now have unlimited charges." will appear in the chatbox, replacing the Fountain of Rune's standard message for charging jewellery.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Due to the unavailability of development tools to create entirely new assets at the time of release, a number of pre-existing assets were combined to create the Fountain of Rune, namely the model of the Obelisk of Water, the shimmering texture of magic trees, the animation for making an infused wand during What Lies Below, and finally the inventory models of standard runes.[2]

I'd not realised quite how suggestive the spurting obelisk would look when I first made it (out of a water obelisk + magic tree texture + rune inventory models + Surok's wand enchantment animation). Of course, we have actual artists in the team now to make stuff."
